　　The MSc in Economics Programaimsto provide solid economicsand analytical training for students in order to prepare them for further pursuit of higher academic degrees in economics, finance, marketing, management, etc. With the solid training and strong support of the faculty of the economics department of HKUST, graduates of the program are expected to be successful in applying for admissions to Ph.D. programs in relevant fields in North America, Europe, and other parts of the world.项目旨在为学生提供坚实的经济和分析训练，为了他们准备进一步追求更高的学位,经济学,金融,市场营销,管理等。期盼该项目的毕业生将成功申请北美、欧洲和世界其他地区相关领域的博士项目。

　　Program Intended Learning Outcomes (PILOs)

　　Our graduates will:

　　Have deep understanding on economic issues based on knowledge on economics including microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics.对经济问题有深刻的理解，包括微观经济学、宏观经济学和计量经济学。

　　Be equipped with optimization methods and economic insights to construct theoretical models analyzing economic and business problems.具有优化方法和经济的洞察力，以构建分析经济和商业问题的理论模型

　　Program Duration

　　The normal period to complete the 30-credit course requirement is 1 year. 1年

　　Program Size

　　The program size will be no more than 80.

　　Research Preparation Concentration

　　Students who want to better prepare themselves for pursuing further studies are given an option to extend one more term to complete a Research Preparation concentration. To opt for the concentration, students are required to complete at courses and minimum 15 credits of elective courses, of which 6 elective credits must be at PhD level; plus a 6-credit Independent Project (ECON6980)

　　The program has established exchange partnership with the following universities:

　　Students will have chance to gain international exposure through the exchange program.

　　Curriculum

　　The minimum number of credits needed to fulfill the degree requirements is 30.

　　The curriculumconsists of three parts : (1) core and required courses, (2) electives, and (3) an MSc project (optional).

　　The minimum number of credits needed to fulfill the degree requirements is 30, including 15 credits of core courses and minimum 15 credits of elective courses.The total credit load should not exceed 34.

　　Core Courses (15 credits)

　　Unless exemption has been granted by course instructors, students must take the above four core courses.

　　Students can register in any postgraduate courses offered by the Department of Economics, except ECON5030, ECON5110 and ECON5200.

　　Electives Courses (15 credits)

　　Electives and special topic courses include (availability varies from year to year):

　　Subject to the approval of the MSc Academic Director, students may take up to 2 economics related postgraduate courses (of no more than 6 credits) offered by other departments in the School of Business and Management, the School of Science, or the Division of Social Science.

　　Students may take up to8 credits of economics related undergraduate courses at 4000-level. Ofthe 8 credits, no more than 6 credits may be from the Department of Economics.

　　Prior Educational Background本科背景

　　Applicants should have obtained a good bachelor‘s degree from a recognized institution. For those who are not econ/business major, a strong quantitative background and a commitment to academic study and research are expected.

　　English Proficiency Requirements英语能力

　　Applicants whose first language is not English and whose degree or equivalent qualification was awarded by an institution where the medium of instruction was not English will also have to meet the University English Requirements:

　　1. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

　　Paper-based test (PBT) score≥550

　　Internet-based test (iBT) score≥80; OR

　　2. International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall score≥6.0, with all sub-scores≥5.5.

　　N.BTOEFL and IELTS scores are valid for two years from the test date.

　　GRE/GMAT

　　Applicants are strongly advised to include GRE/GMAT result in thier applications.强烈建议提交GRE/GMAT成绩

　　Program Fee and Charges 花费

　　Program Fee

　　Tuition for intake 2017/18 is HK$195,000.

　　A caution money of HK$ 300 will also be charged on top of the program fee and is payable in first installment. Charges will be made against the caution money if there is any unpaid claim against the student, such as outstanding library dues. At graduation, the full amount of the caution money will be transferred to cover the graduation fee.

　　Charges for non-local students

　　Student Visa Application

　　The application and the mailing fee of the student visa is?HK$550. Students are expected to settle the fee at the time submitting a visa application via the university.

　　Compulsory Medical Insurance

　　A compulsory medical insurance is required for all registered full-time degree-seeking non-local postgraduate students studying at HKUST on student visa/entry permit.

　　The annual medical insurance fee is HK$358 (subject to review for intake 2017/18) .
